Following the show of interest of about ten members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the presidential seat, the party is being rumoured to be in a confused state.
According to reports, the party is likely to be thrown into a crisis situation in chosen its presidential flagbearer for the 2019 election.
Notable amongst the aspirants are Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa State, Ahmed Makarfi, ex-chairman of the PDP.
Although the party National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, has assured PDP supporters that the leadership of the party would do its best to ensure that due democratic process is brought to play.
He noted that all the old members of the party who are defecting back would be treated in a fair manner and accorded the necessary respect.
However, he did not comment on whether the party would pick any of the ‘new’ members or the old members who have remained in the party to ensure that it does not fold up as the presidential flag bearer.
The Secretary urged PDP members to be calm and trust the leadership of the party in regards to decisions that would move the party forward.
he assures that the Primary election would hold successfully and that no form of crisis would hit the party even after the primary election.
In the words of Ologbondiya, “Be rest assured that they will be accorded their dues and rights as members of the PDP.”
Similarly, the board of trustees (BoT) of the party has disclosed its plan to meet with all the presidential aspirants of the party in order to work towards producing a single candidate for the forthcoming Presidential election.
As gathered by NIGERIA NEWS, this information was revealed in Kaduna three days ago by the Chairman of the Board, Walid Jibrin.
Jibrin, however, noted that if the option of picking a single candidate is rejected by the aspirants, then the party would embark on conducting a primary election.
“We have men and women of honour in the BoT that will never sell their conscience, and ensure that the best will come out of the presidential aspirant without fear and favour.
He appealed to all stakeholders of the party support the board as he also assured that the party would once again take over the control of the country by 2019.
