A former governor of Kaduna state and presidential aspirant under People Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmed Makarfi, has called on Nigerians not to lose focus to get the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) out of office come 2019 election.
NIGERIA NEWS gathers that Makarfi said Nigerians must do everything possible to overthrow the ruling party he described as “drowning men” in the next political era.
The former governor made this comment while submitting his presidential expression of interest and nomination forms at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday, September 7 in Abuja.
He advised political stakeholders and Nigerian s at large to use their brains to ensure the APC party he claimed has no option but the use of intimidation out in the forthcoming election.
Speaking on the alleged gunshot at the PDP secretariat when a former vice president Atiku Abubakar went to submit his form, Makarfi condemned the shooting and said such has never happened in the history of Nigeria’s politics.
He said: “This has never happened before, for a party to leave its domain to go to another party’s headquarters and do what they did, but no matter how they try, they will not succeed.”
“Intimidation will not work, we know the APC members are left with no option but intimidation. When you are losing, whatever you see you grab. A drowning man, if you give him a sword, he will hold it.
“So we are dealing with drowning men, we should understand and see them as such. We must never lose focus to wrest power from the APC, they may use whatever they want to use, but let us use our brains,” the former governor said.
Also speaking on restructuring, Makarfi said, Nigeria needs to be restructured for the interest of all citizens.
“It is the principle and policy of the PDP that Nigeria needs to be restructured in the interest of all of us.
“Nigeria needs to be secured. There is too much bloodletting in this country today. We must restore sanity and stop these killings,” he said.
He also revealed the lapses in President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise of paying N5,000 to poor Nigerians.
Meanwhile, in an earlier report, NIGERIA NEWS had reported that Senate President, Bukola Saraki expressed confidence to emerge PDP presidential candidate in 2019 general elections.
