A 21-year-old man, Kehinde Shittu, was on Wednesday brought before a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, Oyo for allegedly stabbing his friend on the eyeball with a broken bottle.
Shittu is facing a charge of assault.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 20, 2017 at Popoyemoja area of Ibadan.
Ayeni said the accused stabbed the complainant, Juwon Onolaja following a disagreement over a N70 loaf of bread.
“Before the complainant knew it, the accused had broken a bottle and used it to stab his left eye.
“The accused also inflicted deep injuries on complainant’s back and ear,’’ he said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 249 (D) and 335 Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In her ruling, the Court President, Mrs Imoleayo Akinrodoye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until Sept. 28 for mention.
