A 22-year-old man, Ekundayo Oluwaseun, was on Thursday arraigned in an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged burglary and stealing.
The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the accused and others at large committed the alleged offences on Aug. 28 at about 4:00 a.m. at De -Lafra Hotel, Ureje, in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the suspect and others at large broke into the hotel, owned by one Mr Tope Olanipekun.
Leranmo stated that they allegedly stole Infinix Hot 4 Android phone, valued at N39,000, Tecno W3 valued at N11,000, Tecno L9 Android phone, valued at N42,000 belonging to one Mr Yakubu Saliu.
According to the prosecutor, the suspects also stole Itel 1408 Android phone, valued at N15,000, belonging to one Mr Olumide Olanipekun, bringing total value of stolen items to N107,000.
The offences contravened Section 411 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
Leranmo asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
His consel, Mr Gbenga Bejide, urged the court to grant him bail.
The Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum and
adjourned the case until Oct. 16 for further hearing.
