The police on Thursday arraigned a 38-year old woman, Angela Awoke at an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged assault on pepper soup seller over N50 change.
The accused, who resides on Podo, Challenge area of Ibadan, Oyo state, is facing on a one – count charge of assault.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Ojeleye, told the court that the accused on Sept 2, at about 7:30 pm, allegedly assaulted one Margaret Zakariah, 45, over N50 change.
Ojeleye alleged that the accused had sent someone to buy her N200 worth of pepper soup from Margaret.
“Later, Awoke went back to claim N50 change saying the pepper soup should not be N200.”
The prosecutor alleged that an argument over the cost of the pepper soup led to a big misunderstanding, prompting the accused to bath the complainant with a bucketful of water and torn her cloth.
Ojeleye said the complainant then reported the matter at Orita Challenge Police Station at about 8: 02pm on Sept.2.
He said the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.II Laws of Oyo state 2000.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.S Durowoju granted the accused bail in the sum of N25,000 with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case until Oct. 2, for hearing.
