Thursday (tomorrow) has been fixed by Court of Appeal Abuja division to deliver judgment on the disputed September 2018 governorship election in Osun state.
Concise News gathered that the court, on Wednesday, issued hearing notices for the judgment and further served on all the parties to the four pending appeals relating to the disputed poll.
It would be recalled that on April 24, a five-man panel led by Justice Jummai Sankey had heard three appeals and a cross-appeal filed in relation to the Osun State governorship election and reserved its judgments on the appeal.
Other members of the appeal panel which heard the four appeals were Justices Abubakar Yahaya, George Mbaba, Isaiah Akeju and Bitrus Sanga with Justice Sankey presiding.
At the hearing on April 24, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) urged the court to upturn the March 22, 2019, majority judgment of the state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which nullified the governor’s victory at the September 2018 poll.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who were declared the winner of the election by the tribunal, urged the Court of Appeal to affirm the tribunal’s judgment.
INEC had declared Oyetola and the APC the winner of the Osun governorship election on the basis of the cumulative results of the September 22, 2018 main election and the September 27, 2018 supplementary poll.
Adeleke and PDP, not satisfied with the result declared by INEC, had filed their petition before the three-man Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, contending that they were the true winner of the election as they had already won after the September 22, 2018 poll and that there was no need for the supplementary election held on September 27, 2018
Transfer News: Would Coutinho Be Welcomed Back By Liverpool Fans?
The Brazilian attacking midfielder is on a decision to be back at Liverpool from Barcelona. Coutinho played for Liverpool between 2011 to 2018. He left for Barcelona in 2017/2019 season and played attacking midfielder/winger, NIGERIA NEWS reports.
The Brazilian star has initially spent 6 years in English Premier League and now he wanted to be back at Anfield. The question is Would he be welcome well by Liverpool fans?
The decision is yet to be taken and silent for now. Carragher knew that Jurgen Klopp is always smart to take up an opportunity but that depends if Barcelona put the player on the price they can afford.
Jurgen Klopp then make an open statement as quoted below:
“I wouldn’t say I would be actively going to get him, but if there was a possibility of bringing Coutinho back for decent money, and Barca wanted to cut their losses a little bit because it hasn’t worked out, then I’d do that,”
“Would he be welcomed back? I’m not sure. But he should be. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be.
“I know he got a little bit of stick when he came back [for the Champions League semi-final second leg] because he wanted to move.
“But [Xabi] Alonso wanted to move to Real Madrid, [Luis] Suarez wanted to move to Barcelona, and we still loved them when they went.
“Sometimes we pick and choose who we love when they leave. Nobody forced any player to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona – [Javier] Mascherano is another one.
“Suarez only got stick when he came back because of his antics in the first game, if he hadn’t done that then he’d be adored when he came back. What’s the difference between him and Coutinho?”, he said.
Carragher added on the benefits that Coutinho could offer a side that missed out on the Premier League title but is readying itself for a Champions League final date with Tottenham: “We lack that player in the squad. We have it in [Adam] Lallana and [Xherdan] Shaqiri, but this is a different level of player.
Carragher speaks on the advantage of having Coutinho noting that he could fill a missing space in English Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp then finally added that,
“It’s the one thing Man City have on us, they have Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne. We don’t have that type of player.
“We have great midfield players who are all very similar. We could add something a little bit different.
“But that would only really be if it was a good price for us.”
