Again! Five Killed In Fresh Attack By Gunmen In Rivers

Some unknown gunmen were said to have disrupted the peace in a community in Rivers state this morning as five people were reportedly killed in the fresh attack.

The report gathered revealed that unknown gunmen have launched a recent attack in Egbeda community in Emohua local government area of the state where five people were reportedly killed following the 17 people that were killed in New Year Days in the state.

According to Punch, it was gathered that some security personnel who tip-toe from the bush prevented the bandits from their bloody mission as they were pursued out from the community.

The report gathered within the community revealed that the miscreant who wore black trousers and T-shirts with red caps killed two people in the attack according to the police.

A source disclosed that the bandits who escaped after some soldiers tailed them in the bush attacked the Egbeda community in the morning while the villagers were busy to get ready for their daily activities.

“Some unknown gunmen wearing black attire with red caps came to Egbeda this morning and killed five persons.
“We all crawled through the bush to get them, but they ran away when we got there,” the source said.

The Rivers state commissioner of police, Ahmed Zaki who confirmed the incident said only one person was killed in an attack in Unyeada in Andoni local government area of the state.

Ahmed said the bandits came in a motorcycle, shot and killed one person in Egbeda. He also said that the police has beefed security in the area to prevent recurrence of such incidence.

The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike urged residents to help with relevant information that could lead to the arrest of the criminals to make such available to the state government.

Wike emphasized that the Rivers state government will pay for the hospital bills of the victims and the funeral payments of those who lost their lives in the bloody attack.
