Ekiti At It Again! Assembly Impeaches Two Exco Members Over Alleged Misconduct
Happening now in the Ekiti House of Assembly is the impeachment of the state’s Deputy Speaker Hon. Adesegun Adewumi and the Chief Whip, Hon. Akinniyi Sunday.
The house has further appointed Hon. Animashaun Adesina, representing Ekiti west Constituency 11 as the new deputy speaker while another member representing Ekiti South West constituency 1 Hon. Onigiobi Olawale has also been appointed to take over the office of the chief whip.
According to the information received by NIGERIA NEWS, the impeachment of Hon. Adesegun was as a result of a motion put forward by the Leader of the house, Hon. Akinyele Olatunji which was seconded by Hon. Olayanju Olanrewaju.
An allegation of acts that may bring disrepute to the house was laid against the impeached deputy speaker.
According to Adesegun, the deputy speaker is guilty of “gross misconduct, lack of leadership quality and acting in a way that could destabilize the state.”
It was disclosed to the house by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Kola Oluwawole that 18 members of the Assembly gave their consent by appending their signature on the notice of the impeachment of the deputy speaker in accordance with section 92 (2c) of the 1999 constitution as amended.
The lawmakers that attended today’s plenary altogether agreed that actions of Hon Adewumi are perceived to be disloyal and as such should be excused from his position as the deputy speaker of the house.
Also, it was announced by the Speaker that Hon Onigiobi should take over the position of the chief Whip as directed by the Ekiti chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The new deputy speaker, Hon Animasaun, when making his speech of acceptance of the position said: “I am honoured by the appointment and I promise to perform my duties in accordance with the constitution.”
