IPOB Sit-At-Home Order: Police Send Message To Citizens; Biafra Group

IPOB news alert via Biafra Breaking news: Indigenous People of Biafra leaders arrested with Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB: Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Bright Chimezie, David Nwawusi, and Benjamin Madubugwu, who were charged with offences relating to “preparations to secede from Nigeria” and detained without bond since 2015 have been freed.

The four men were charged to court together with the leader of the group, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and detained at the Kuje Prison, Abuja.

They left the prison gates around 6pm on Thursday evening in company of Barrister Aloy Ejimakor who led a team of IPOB lawyers to the prison facility to ensure that the release order was carried out.

The other lawyers on the team were PA Ejiofor, Max Opara, Prince Mandela and Chukwudi Igwe.

The release was sequel to the lawyers meeting all the bail terms, particularly the cash bond of Five Million Naira each, making it a total of Twenty Million Naira for all four accused persons.

DAILY POST had reported last week that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, granted bail to the four pro-Biafra agitators.

The cash bond was paid yesterday by bank draft to the Registrar of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The next hearing date for their trial is set for 14th November, 2019; and it is expected that the judge will first deal with the pending objections to her jurisdiction before taking any further step in the trial.

DAILY POST understands that all four defendants left Abuja yesterday by night bus to their various homes in South East.

UNN New VC Is Prof. Charles Igwe

The University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN will soon be led by the new vice chancellor, VC, whose name is Prof. Charles Igwe. The report of the emergence of the new VC is made known by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Dr. Okwun Omeaku, NIGERIA NEWS reports.

The appointment was made on Thursday by the board of governing council of the university. Prof. Charles is presently the administrative Deputy Vice-Chancellor, DVC, of UNN.

His Profiles entails being a Professor of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture. He rose from grass to grace is a soil survey assistant in 1976 to becoming an academic staff in 1991 and eventually became a Professor in the year 2003.

He took the appointment of DVC in 28th May 2016 and his tenure was extended in 2018 till date he became the VC. Within a short, while he would succeed Prof. Benjamin Ozurumba the outgoing VC and the handing over would take place on 4th of June, 2019.

ASUU Said The Union Should Not Be Held Accountable For Any Disruption In Educational Sector

The Academic Staff Union of Universities made it clear on Wednesday that the Federal Government has not yet responded to the agreement made with the union. And to the cause of federal government not executing the agreement, the union then make a statement in Abuja that the Federal Government should not have the union to blame for irresponsibility if the educational system in the Universities were devastated.

The ASUU union claim that the 2001 agreement gave loop into the 2009 agreement due to the unfulfillment of the government promise to the agreement and Mr. Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education said that the Federal Government should have disbursed 25 billion naira between 15th and 28th of February, 2019 to the Universities across the nation but up till now the government have done nothing and this is meant to have been the part payment of Academic allowance.

ASUU Told The Federal Government To Go On Strike

ASUU declared on Thursday to go on strike if the Federal Government do not meet up with the agreement in the 2019 Memorandum of Action. Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi states in Abuja the following statement below:

“Our members enjoy their work and hate to see any disruption in the smooth running of our universities. However, the level of frustration occasioned by the lackadaisical attitude of the government towards meeting the terms of the 2019 Memorandum of Action that was freely signed with our union is increasingly becoming unbearable.

“We, therefore, call on all Nigerian patriots, parents, and students including the Nigeria Labour Congress to prevail on the government to keep to the terms of our agreement. Otherwise, our union should not be held responsible for any disruption in the system.”

Minister Of Education Statement As To The Approval Of Disbursement Of 25 Billion Naira Is Falsify By ASUU

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu made a statement on Wednesday in Abuja that the 25 billion naira Earned Academic Allowance has been approved by the Federal government for the Universities. The ASUU President then falsify the statement, reckoning that it’s not approved and declared that the minister is not in any way sincere.

ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi express disappointment over the nonchalant attitude of the union member to the issue at hand. The President said the strike which was to happen on 17th February 2019 was suspended. An agreement was reached on 7th of February, 2019 through the signing of Memorandum of Understanding, MOA in which the federal government is not yet to be faithful to till date.
