A middle-aged senior civil servant with Kogi State, Edward Soje has hung himself in Lokoja. His lifeless body was discovered on a tree at the mammy market in Maigumeri barracks.

The deceased, an indigene of Ogori town in Ogori -Magongo Local Government area of the state was a level 16 officer with the Kogi State Teaching Service Commission who was being owed more than 10 months salary by the state government.
Prior to his death, he had journeyed down to Abuja after leaving a suicide letter for his spouse who is also a civil servant. The suicide letter reads “Psalm 121:3 God will not suffer your foot to be moved: He that keepeth you will not slumber. Amen. You and the three boys, the God Almighty will keep you and prosper you, amen. I love you”
The state police command Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya confirmed the incident, he disclosed that “the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Area D Division received information about the incident from the military intelligence office in the barracks”.

A source in the family revealed that prior to his death, Soje had been experiencing financial challenges because of the inability of Kogi State Government to pay workers salary.
Soje’s financial challenge aggravated when his wife delivered a set of triplets through Caesarian operation in a private hospital in Abuja on Oct. 7.
After the christening of the triplets which was attended by few family members in the hospital, he left the hospital for his wife’s home in Abuja and never returned.
His wife immediately organised a search party for him after being hinted on the suicide note her husband had left behind. All efforts to locate him both in Abuja and Lokoja was unfruitful until his relatives and friends decided to check hospitals in Lokoja where his body was found.
The wife is yet to receive the news, although efforts are being made by family members on how to relay the news to her.
