NIGERIA NEWS notes that Abramovich demanded a whopping sum of £1.17billion if he decided to sell Chelsea.
The 51-year-old cannot gain entry into the United Kingdom following his failed attempt to get his visa into the country renewed.
A situation that made him miss the Blues FA Cup triumph over Manchester United on the same day as the ‘Royal Wedding’.
Before his visa issue, Abramovic was planning to rehabilitate the Stamford Bridge but with the current situation, he has put that plan on hold.
As he will not be willing to invest any more money in a country where the government does not want to give him a visa.
According to the Sun, he has spent well over £1 billion since he took over the club in June 2003 for a sum of £140 million.
The money he would want to recoup when the right buyer comes, meanwhile, Forbes report that the London club is the seventh most valuable club in the world worth £1.44bn.
According to the reports from the Times, Abramovich plans to sell the club at the rate of £1.17billion to make up for the money he has spent at the club in the last 15 years.
The Russian was granted Israeli citizenship late last month, which means he no longer needs a visa to enter the UK — although he can only do so as a visitor and not in a working capacity.
He oversaw the plans to knock down the Bridge and replace it with a 60,000-capacity stadium on the site of the club’s home since it was founded in 1905.
“Chelsea Football Club announces today that it has put its new stadium project on hold.
“No further pre-construction design and planning work will occur. The club does not have a time frame set for reconsideration of its decision.
“The decision was made due to the current unfavourable investment climate.”
Meanwhile, NIGERIA NEWS in an earlier report had reported that Chelsea ready to cash in on its star, target this Roma star as a possible replacement.
