The Ondo State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, has charged the state’s contingent to the 2019 National Sports Festival to be good ambassadors of the state in Abuja.
Yusuf-Ogunleye, who gave the charge while bidding the state contingent farewell on Tuesday in Akure, said they should go to the festival and rule with a haul of medals.
“No section of the contingent should come back empty-handed. We want to show to the world that Ondo State is one of the top states in sports with highly-disciplined athletes.
“The team captain will be held responsible for any act of indiscipline in Abuja. I have no doubt in my mind that we will be proud of you all,” he said.
Yusf-Ogunleye said that the state government would ensure that the entitlements and welfare of the athletes will be its priority.
“We will ensure that you are all adequately compensated when you do us proud, we should also thank you by celebrating you,” he added.
The commissioner noted that the festival should be an improvement on what the state did at the youth games in Ilorin, where it came third.
Yusuf-Ogunleye said the state contingent to Abuja would do better by targeting more medals in Abuja.
He noted that he will be in Abuja with the governor to charge them up, as the games progress.
Earlier, the Acting General Manager of the State Sports Council, Mr Wande Fabuluje, assured the commissioner that medals will be the target of the state’s contingent in Abuja.
The Team Captain, Fasugba Abiodun, who spoke on behalf of the team, said the contingent will do the state proud , by being good ambassadors of the state.
