Cross River House Of Assembly Earmarks N500m To Rent Helicopter, N4bn For Carnival
The Cross River State Government has proposed to spend the sum of 4 Billion Naira on the Calabar Carnival for the year 2018.
According to the report presented to the State House of Assembly by the Chairman of the Finance and Appropriation Committee, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams, the sum of 500 million naira would be used to rent a helicopter that would cover the whole period of the carnival and another 500 million naira would be paid to five bands who would be on standby for the duration of the carnival.
Nigeria News gathered that the whole of the allocation ratified by the House for the 2018 Calabar Carnival totals at N4, 065, 504, 643.
Meanwhile, another 100 million naira would be used for the Street Party/Youth Carnival.
Rt. Hon. Willaims told the Cross River House of Assembly: “Calabar carnival remains the pivot of tourism development in Cross River State.
“This explains why Carnival Commission is allocated N4, 065, 504, 643 in the 2018 proposed budget to enable the commission to organise the annual international carnival and approve on the standard set.
“Similarly, N500 million each is provided for the hiring of a helicopter to cover the event, paid as grants to the 5 bands and settle other cost associated with the celebration.
“The status of the carnival has changed in structure, sponsorship and organization over the years.
“While it is the wish of government to gradually disengage and allow private sponsorship take over there is still need to support the commotion and bands pending when this desired objective will be achieved”
