2019: 2 Senators Dump APC For Opposition Party

Rochas Okorocha, the executive governor of Imo state has publicly admitted that the recent mass defection that hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) truly hurt him and the members of the ruling party at large.

NIGERIA NEWS notes that Okorocha made this confession on Thursday, August 23, in Daura, Katsina state when he led other APC governors to visit President Muhammadu Buhari to felicitate with him as Muslims celebrated Eid-el Kabir.

Okorocha, who is also the chairman of the APC governors forum, said: “We had wished that none of them, especially the governors, had left the part. We had wished, and it pains us so much.”

He said the defectors had related and associated with members of the APC while they were in the party.

“All of a sudden, you don’t see one of your own; we feel it,” he lamented.

Okorocha, however, claimed the defections had no serious effect on the APC.

On the other hand, Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi state, said it was normal for politicians to defect from parties.

“Parties around the world are associations of persons and, sometimes, others will feel their objectives cannot be met where they are.

“What has happened led to more commitment among party members,” Bagudu said.

The mass defection that hit the ruling APC recently took away three governors including Samuel Ortom of Benue; Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara; and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto.

Many members of the party at the National Assembly also left the party with many joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a related development, NIGERIA NEWS had reported that Senator Shehu Sani commended President Muhammadu Buhari, revealed why he chose to remain in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Zainab Bagudu

The first lady of Kebbi state, Zainab Bagudu has condemned the former acting Chief Justice of the state, Justice Asabe Saratu for not retiring from her position honourably.

Recall that her husband, governor Atiku Bagudu had sacked Saratu for complaining to the National Judicial Council (NJC) that her appointment was no confirmed by the state house of assembly because she is a Christian.

Zainab, who took to her Facebook page to react to this said although she celebrated her upliftment to the number one legal post in the state, but condemned what she termed her selfish attempt.

“As a female born to parents who both belong to the legal profession, I loudly celebrated the rise of Justice Asabe Karatu as the first female Chief Justice of Kebbi state. More so, I attended the university with her daughter. Now, I totally condemn her selfish attempt to hang on to position instead of retiring honourably.

Zainab who pointed that her allegations have brought about undeserved insults and criticism one her husband, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and others, noted that sadly, that is one of the burdens of leadership.

“It is worrisome that as a Nation, we allow religion to quickly divide us rather than use reason to search for reasons to avoid conflict.

“The statement below will not clear every mind, but it is necessary to set the records straight and we owe it to our children to always do what is right. Most of all, We should ALWAYS try to be bigger than our personal ambition. ”
