Release Detained School Teachers For Peace To Reign In Ekiti – Ekiti Teachers’ Union To DSS
With just less than 5 days to the Ekiti governorship election, teachers in the state have appealed to the Department of State Security (DSS) to release three of its members detained by the secret police.
NIGERIA NEWS notes that the teachers’ union, in a statement released on Sunday, July 8, called on the DSS to release their members in the interest of peace in the state.
On the other hand, the teachers under the auspice of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools also denied working for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Kayode Fayemi.
The chairman of the union., Sola Adigun, said the continued detention of the teachers was not in the best interest of the state.
He said his detained colleagues were apolitical and should not be intimidated by any security agency.
In addition, the chairman of the union called on the people of Ekiti state to ignore a statement in circulation that the union was working for Fayemi.
“The said statement, which could not be signed by the said faceless individuals for obvious display of cowardice, has been transmitted in the social media,” Adigun said.
Meanwhile, in an earlier report, NIGERIA NEWS had reported that Police deployed 30, 000 of its men to Ekiti ahead of Saturday, July 14 governorship election in the state.
