EPL: How Manchester United Can Beat Manchester City – Solskjaer

Published

on

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his players to give “absolutely everything” to restore their battered image and to come out victorious against Manchester City in the Manchester Derby tonight at Old Trafford.

After losing 4-0 to Everton, the players have come under a lot of scrutiny for their poor performances since Ole got the job on a permanent basis, they have lost six out of their last eight matches.

Manchester City need to win to overtake Liverpool to go top of the log, while United also need to get the maximum points to boost their champions league hopes.

“Of course there’ll be consequences [for the defeat to Everton ],”

Solskjaer told Sky Sports . “We’re not going to see exactly the same team [against Manchester City].

“It’s about a reaction, a response. We can’t work on fitness – it’s mindsets. I know the players; they’re very good, talented players. Everton outran us, outworked us. We have to bring something different [against City].

We know the quality of their team but our fans need to know we’ve given absolutely everything – tactically, mentally, physically, as well as handling the ball.

“For me it’s the best game we could have. There’s no hiding place. The world’s watching. The whole of Manchester is watching. Liverpool is watching!

“Our players’ pride has been hurt badly – my pride, the club’s pride. The game is a great chance to put things right. We know we have a way to go to get where we want to be but it’s a step; we can show the standards we want to have.”

Solskjaer is demanding a reaction from his players after the flat performance against Everton which left their top four hopes hanging in a balance.

“We spoke honestly at half-time and after the game,” the Norwegian added. “We know that performance is not acceptable if you want to get to the top where we think we belong.

I can say only twice we’ve really let ourselves down this year in terms of performance – that game [against Everton] and the game against Wolves in the FA Cup

The only means of qualifying for the Uefa Champions League is by finishing among the top four teams after crashing out of the competition against Barcelona.

The rule that would be implemented under this is that there would be no chance given to any players to waste time on the pitch anymore, as substituted players would have to leave the pitch at the closest side of the pitch and card may probably be awarded for wasting time.

PENALTY KICKS

The Goalkeepers would, therefore, have to have a foot put on the line and would not be allowed to touch the goal posts before the shoot out of the penalty kicks. In this manner, no Goalkeeper would be able to exploit any chance to avert an opportunity to lead.

COACHES CARDS

The coach would also have to be carded by the Referee in a similar as players were being carded during a match. Both yellow and red cards would also be applicable to coaches as well as starting from next season.

HANDBALLS

  • The goal would be denied if the ball actually strikes any player’s hand during the development to have a goal.
  • If any player should make any favourable moves in handling the ball outside the penalty kickbox, even if it regarded unintentional, freekicks would be awarded.
  • The IFAB dispose of ‘manufactured’ restarts if there be any drop balls.

The IFAB make it clear that:

“The current dropped ball procedure often leads to a ‘manufactured’ restart which is ‘exploited’ unfairly or an aggressive confrontation.

“Returning the ball to the team that last played it restores what was ‘lost’ when play was stopped, except in the penalty area where it is simpler to return the ball to the goalkeeper.

“To prevent that team gaining an unfair advantage, all players of both teams, except the player receiving the ball, must be at least 4m (4.5 yds) away.”
