A former Chief Security Officer of the Polytechnic of Ibadan, Oyo State, Ahmed Olalekan, has been reportedly killed by unknown persons suspected to be cultists.
According to information gathered by NIGERIA NEWS, late Olalekan who resides in Apete, a suburb part of Ibadan was said to have been traced down to his house where he was shot to death.
It also gathered that the late CSO was popular in the institution for his fight against cultism.
His death, however, came to his colleagues as a shock which made them baricade the Sango -Eleyele road where the institution is located thereby preventing vehicular movement.
Also, a student of the institution identified as Alex Makun has been reportedly killed by members of Aiye confraternity.
Information on the death of Makun revealed that he was butchered by his killers.
The incidents have crippled academic and other activities in the institution as few students were only seen in the school premises while lecture theatres were empty.
according to An eyewitness account, “The student killed was not a cultist, as much as I know. “He was popular for tackling and preventing the activities of cult members.”
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Odude revealed that the incident was as a result of a clash between cult groups in the institution.
He also disclosed that about ten persons have been arrested in connection with the two incidents and that they will be taken to court for prosecution as soon as investigation is concluded.
In the words of Odude, “The incident resulted from a cult war. We have arrested nine persons in connection with it and we are going to charge them to court after investigation.”
Efforts to speak with an official of the institution proved abortive as none of those who were on ground was willing to talk to the press while the number of the institution PRO was not reachable.
