Fayose Rejects Kalu’s Planned Advocacy Visit

According to him, the Ekiti State Government, the former governor should “take his advocacy for peace to other parts of the country where the security of lives and properties of Nigerians is under threat, not Ekiti State that even the police adjudged as the most peaceful state in the country”.

Fayose Rejects Kalu's Planned Advocacy Visit

The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has warned former governor of Abia State, Mr. Orji Kalu, against his planned advocacy visit to the state in order to curry support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 re-election bid. the governor made this known in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to him, the Ekiti State Government, the former governor should “take his advocacy for peace to other parts of the country where the security of lives and properties of Nigerians is under threat, not Ekiti State that even the police adjudged as the most peaceful state in the country”.

Kalu, who is acting as the Chairman, Advisory Board for the National Movement for Re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari, is currently on a tour of the South-west states which is purportedly a visit to advocate peace, fairness, and unity of the country with a view to also rally support for the president’s 2019 re-election bid.

However, the Ekiti State Government, in the statement issued by the Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said: “There is no threat to peace and unity of Nigeria from Ekiti State for anyone, including Orji Kalu to address. Therefore, he should not expect to be welcomed to any palace in Ekiti State.”

The government also called on traditional rulers in the state to ignore the former Abia State governor on his visit. “It is an insult on the collective sensibilities of Ekiti people, whose only benefit from the government of President Buhari is hardship occasioned by the government’s cluelessness for anyone to hide under advocacy for peace to canvass support for the president,” the statement reads.

The state government stated that it was unspeakable that because of the former governor’s issue with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), he has imposed on himself, the task of embarking on image laundering for a president whose government is inflicting sufferings on its citizens.

According to the statement, “If he has sold his own conscience to the agenda of selling an already rejected product to Nigerians, we in Ekiti State have not, and we are telling him categorically that such advocacy is not welcome in our state.”

“He should rather take his peace and unity advocacy to his own state, where he is already rejected and other states where Nigerians are being killed on daily basis by bandits.”

“It is also ridiculous that instead of joining Nigerians to tell the president the truth about the state of affairs in the country, Kalu is castigating Nigerians that have summoned courage to speak out against the president through letters and public comments.”

June 12: Tinubu, other opportunists begged for appointment from Abacha – Bode George

Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended Kola Abiola, the son of the late MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the Jun 12 1993 election, who alleged that former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and other “June 12 opportunists.” approached former military dictator, Sani Abacha to beg for appointment after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election.

Speaking with Punch in reaction to Kola’s allegations, George, a former military administrator, hailed Kola for stating the facts even as he lamented that many opportunists were seeking to twist history.

Kola said after Tinubu had lost out that he decided to join hands with the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) to fight for the actualisation of the June 12 mandate.

“It is true that Tinubu went to beg for a commissioner position. He was in the Villa and Gen. Oladipo Diya is a witness. He (Tinubu) said he wanted to be a deputy to a military administrator and when all that didn’t work, he went into his activism.”

The PDP chieftain, who lauded Kola for deciding to make a documentary of the June 12 saga said he must not be victimised for saying the truth since, as the first son of MKO, and an insider.

“Most of what Kola said is true. He spoke from the heart and he was trying to set the records straight in the face of the many narratives. He had been looking for who would help to recognise the June 12 saga so that his father wouldn’t have died in vain.

“In the course of this, he had bottled up so much. He went through a lot, having lost his mother and family businesses during the struggle. So, he was setting the records straight so that people would not rewrite history,” he said.

Speaking on the lesson learnt from the June 12 saga, George said the lessons must go beyond declaring a holiday or immortalising MKO.

“Now, June 12 has been adopted as a national holiday but have we learnt any serious lesson from it? Have we done anything to ensure that the mistakes of the past are not repeated?

“Yes, people are pontificating and trying to use it as a political tool but believe we have not learnt anything,” George said.

Former Aviation, Femi Fami-Kayode has lambasted wife of Kebbi state governor, Zainab Bagudu for saying all he ever wanted was attention.

This is in reaction to question asked by Fani-Kayode on the sack of acting Chief Justice of Kebbi, Asabe Karatu by the governor after reporting the state government to the National Judicial Commission (NJC) alleging that the Kebbi state National Assembly refused to confirm her appointment because she is a Christian.

The Kebbi first lady had responded to Fani-Kayode telling Twitter users not to mind the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as all he wanted was attention.

“Pls don’t bother answering Femi. That’s what he wants. Attention,” she tweeted.

“Stop dreaming and fantasising Zainab.I don’t want ur attention,I couldn’t give a damn about u and I don’t DO other people’s wives so stop getting all worked up and getting ur knickers in a twist! All I want is for Atiku to explain why he refused to confirm the Acting CJ. Tell him! Bagudu,” Fani-Kayode fired back.

Recall that governor had defended his action during the swearing in of a new acting Chief Justice of the state, Justice Mohammed Sulaiman, saying  Karatu couldn’t be confirmed as the state substantive CJ because of some error on her birth certificate.

He added that he even pleaded with the members twice, which was rejected and the NJC was notified on the action taken.
