NIGERIA NEWS would be analyzing the salaries, and remunerations of House Of Representatives Members in Nigeria, with a special interest in the remuneration of the speaker, deputy speaker, the whips, majority and minority leaders and all committee chairmen as a follow on the recent post on the Salaries And Earnings Of Nigerian Senators.

As mentioned in the previous post, Nigerian legislators are actually the highest paid legislators and parliamentarians in the world, and this is because of the well-structured salary scheme constructed by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation And Fiscal Commission.

It is no longer news however that many House of Representative members just like their Senate counterparts live above their pay and one way or the other corruptible raise extra funds to fuel their extravagant lifestyle.

Below is the detailed analysis of the salaries and earnings of Nigerian House Of Representative Members.

Speaker And Deputy Speaker

Going by the approved 2015 review of the earnings made the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation And Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), The Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives earns an annual basic salary of N 2, 477, 110, with an accompanying allowance of N2, 477, 110.50 bringing about a total annual salary of N4, 954, 220.50. In lieu of that, the monthly take-home salary of the speaker is N 412, 851.67.

Additionally, the Speaker of the House of Representatives is accrued to 100 percent of his Annual Basic Salary as Constituency Allowance which sums up to a total of N 2, 477, 110.

Other non-regular allowances include 300 percent gratuity for the speaker; and estacode of $790 per night for foreign trips, as well as a N32, 000 per night duty tour allowance.

Similarly, the speaker’s wardrobe expenses and newspapers are covered by the federal government.

On the other side, the federal government provides the speaker’s vehicles and as well as their maintenance. Similarly, the domestic staffs, entertainments, utilities, securities, Legislative Aides, House Maintenance, Special Adviser and a Personal Assistant are also provided by the federal government.

The Deputy Speaker enjoys the same benefits as the Speaker with a little exception to his Annual Basic Salary and total allowances. The review provides for an Annual Basic Salary of N 2,287, 034.25, and a total allowance of N2, 287, 034.25. This brings annual salary to a total of N4,574,068.50 and a monthly payment of N 381172.38

The Deputy Speaker receives $ 750 as estacode for foreign trips and gets N32, 000 per night as Duty Tour Allowance.

The Majority Leader, Whips and Committee Chairmen

The House Majority Leader receives an annual basic salary of N 1,985, 212.50. similarly, the minority leader, whips and committee chairmen earn same.

In addition, the majority Leader receives 10 percent of annual salary for Responsibility which is; Minority Leader 7 percent; while the Whip and Committee chairmen receive 5 percent for the same purpose.

It is important to note that the Senate principal officers are all entitled to the benefits accruable to the ordinary senators of the National assembly, with extra added benefits.

Ordinary Members Of The House Of Representatives

An Ordinary member of Federal House Of Representatives earns an annual basic salary of N1, 985, 212.50. In addition to that, all members of the federal House of Representatives earns a 100% annual basic salary as allowances for constituency projects.

Each member of the House of Representatives receives 200 percent of the annual salary for accommodation, 75 percent for vehicle maintenance, 25 percent for Personal Assistants, 5 percent for house maintenance, 75 percent for domestic staff, 30 percent for both entertainment and utilities.

Other received remunerations include 25 percent for wardrobe, 15 percent for newspapers and responsibility allowance of between 10, 7, and 5 percent respectively.

All House of Representatives members are accrued to $550 as estacode per night during foreign travels and N21, 000 as the per night remunerations on duty tour.

Samuel Okwaraji, how he came, saw and Conquered

Posthumously, today is the 55th birthday of legendary Nigeria footballer, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji. The football legend was born 19th of May 1964.

What comes to the mind of many Nigerians who knew or those that have heard about Okwaraji is that of a player who slumped and eventually died on the field of play, during a football match.

Okwaraji dawned the shirt of several European football clubs; AS Roma (1984-1985), NK Dinamo Zagreb (1985-1986), Austria Klagenfurt (1986-1987), VfB Stuttgart (1987-1989) and SSV Ulm 1846 (loan) (1987-1988)

His International career stared during the 1988 African Nation’s Cup, where he went on to score the fastest goal in the history of the African Nation’s competition. He featured in the final of the competition, though was not able to help the Green Eagles claim the trophy.

The Orlu born star slumped 77 minutes on of the 1990 World Cup qualifier encounter with Angola in Lagos. Autopsy revealed that the 25-year-old had an enlarged heart and high blood pressure.

United States Tech Giant, Google, marked Okwaraji’s posthumous birthday with a Google Doodle.

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has revealed that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole, sent him DSS detail to insult him. Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, Okorocha said he had gone to interact with his party Chairman about issues relating to happenings in the party when he (Oshiomhole) sent his DSS personnel to push him out of his office.

4. Heavily Armed Security Agents ‘Deployed’ To Emir Sanusi’s Palace
Following events that has been happening in Kano State in the last couple of days, Nigeria News understands that heavily armed officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), have been deployed to the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and the residents of some senior council members of the Kano Emirate in Kano state, northern Nigeria. A report monitored on Daily Trust by Nigeria News, diaclosed that about 10 police Hilux Vans with security personnel were stationed at the emir’s palace at Kofar Kudu on Saturday, May 11, while another 10 patrol vehicles were deployed to the personal residence of the chief of staff to the Emir of Kano along Iyaka road.

The National Assembly has forwarded the 2019 Appropriation Bill to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.
