Why INEC Declares PDP As Winner Of Zamfara State Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC under the command of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Electoral body nullify the candidacy of all the All Progressive Congress, APC candidates who won in the last 2019 Zamfara state election and thereby declare the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, who happened to be the first runner up in the election, the winner of the election, NIGERIA NEWS reports.
The nullification is due to the judgment pass by the Supreme Court that all the APC did not conduct any valid primary election for the candidates. And so, for that reason, their victory is canceled and the victory is given to the first runner up who happened to be PDP members.
The INEC chairman reveals the report in Abuja on Friday during a briefing.
According to Prof. Mahmood, the electoral commission not only follow the judgment of the court but also take legal advice from a legal practitioner concerning the judgment. The electoral commission reveals that the PDP won the Governorship and Deputy Governorship posts of the Zamfara state election.
According to section 179 subsection 2 of the 1999 constitution, INEC said that PDP qualifies with all criteria the constitution provides. However, the PDP won Zamfara central, west and north senatorial district. The PDP also won the 7 House of Representative.
