France Forward, Antoine Griezmann Scores Twice Against Marseille To Win UEFA Europa League Final For Atletico Madrid
It was a night for the Spanish first runners-up as they brushed aside French side, Marseille in commanding fashion in the 2017/2018 Final of the UEFA Europa league.
Playing in front of home fans in Lyon, the Dmitri Payet-led Marseille side could not muster anything up front as they fell to a 3-0 loss in the hands of their more experienced European counterparts.
At the centre of everything was, ironically a French forward, Antoine Griezmann who showed his worth to the capital club once more.
Despite being linked with a summer transfer to Spanish heavyweights, FC Barcelona, the tricky right-winger was alert enough in the 21st minute as he pounced on a defensive error by the Marseille team to put the ball past Steve Mandanda in goal.
Not done scoring for the night, Griezmann came out to the second half blazing and it took him just four minutes to all but secure the Europa League trophy for Atletico with another sumptuous finish.
Experienced midfielder, Gabi was on hand to slot in a third goal as Marseille gave up any hopes of a comeback.
The victory means the Atletico Madrid coach, Diego Simeone has now won the second-tier European club competition twice with the Spanish capital club. Also, Atletico Madrid can celebrate their move into the Wanda Metropolitano this season with European success.
