IPOB Claims Police Illegally Arrests 21 Of Its Members
Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has on Sunday accused the Abia State Police Command of illegally arresting 21 Shalom Church members and other Christian denominations claimed to be having a prayer session at the abode of the leader of the group, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Afara-Ukwu.
This claim has however been refuted by the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr Anthony Ogbizi.
Ogbizi, disclosed that his officers only took into custody eight members of the group who were found roaming the state and unable to disclose their mission.
Information available to NIGERIA NEWS shows that the suspects conveyed themselves in three trucks with Rivers and Cross River states plate numbers, drove to Kanu’s residential home in Umuahia and later go about the state carrying out surveillance activities for almost seven days.
The commissioner claimed that the police had earlier been tipped about their coming and their plan to storm the city for a yet to be determined mission.
He also disclosed that the eight members arrested were unable to state their reason for being within the state and as such was taken to the police station for further questioning.
Ogbizi further revealed that the suspects are already being profiled at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, CID, to determine why they are in the state.
Contrarily, IPOB has released a statement through its media and publicity secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful claiming that the police illegally arrested and have concluded plans to kill the members of the Jewish faith nabbed in Kanu’s Abode.
Parts of the statement read thus: “the Nigeria security agents abducted and tortured Jewish worshippers in Nnamdi Kanu’s residence who came to pray at the compound on Sunday morning without any provocation.”
“This is to alert the whole world that the Jewish worshippers praying in Afaraukwu Ibeku at IPOB leader’s residence are currently undergoing severe torture from the Nigeria security agents at Central Police Station Umuahia and Zone 9 Force Headquarters, Ehimiri Estate Ikot Ekpene Road Umuahia.”
“Some of the Jewish worshippers have been abducted and taken to unknown places, for easy execution. The Nigeria security agents have declared war on Christians and religious groups once again, as a daring move against the warnings and agreement made in Washington D.C between the US President Donald Trump and Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari.”
