Green Chamber Cautions Buhari’s Administration On It’s Plan To Sell National Theatre
The lower chamber of the Nigerian lawmakers has issued a warning to the Muhammadu Buhari led administration against its plan to sell the country’s National Theatre located in Inganmu, Lagos State.
This warning was sounded by members of Committee on Tourism and Culture, on Monday at a meeting it held with the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
The meeting took place at the National Assembly complex Abuja.
The Chairman of the Committee, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama disclosed that the warning is actually in the best interest of the Nigeria citizens.
The committee has also declared its plan to interfere in the ongoing controversy between Artistic Director of the monument and his officers should it become too difficult for the Minister to end.
The Committee noted that the culture and Tourism sector of the country has not really been paid much attention to.
The minister, however, told the committee during his presentation of the Ministry’s proposed budget that he has done a lot in ensuring that the sector is improved.
He recounted some of the efforts he has made in that regard as he appealed to the committee to approve the proposed budget of N2.6 billion.
