A 21-year-old man, Umar Salisu, on Tuesday appeared in a Lugbe Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for alleged theft of a refrigerator and banner.
Salisu, who resides at Tipper Garage, Airport Road, Lugbe, Abuja, had pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge of joint act, criminal trespass, assault and theft.
The prosecuting counsel, Mrs Ukoha Ndidi, had told the court that Salisu committed the offences on Sept. 7 at Lugbe Zone 6, Abuja.
Ndidi said that one Nkechi Ebim of Lugbe Zone 6, Airport Road, reported the matter at the Lugbe Police Station on Sept. 7.
She said that the defendant and one Mustapha, now at large, criminally trespassed into the complainant’s house without her consent and stole her refrigerator and banner valued yet unknown.
The prosecutor said that in the process, the complainant raised alarm and Salisu was caught and handed over to the police, but Mustapha escaped.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the refrigerator and the banner were recovered from Salisu.
Ndidi said the offences contravened Sections 79, 262, 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Mr Idharhi Samuel, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200, 000, with a surety in like sum and adjourned the matter till Oct. 25 for hearing.
