Amidst the uproar as to zoning for elections in the PDP, Balarabe Musa, a former Governor of the Old Kaduna State has said that the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose is qualified to contest for the 2019 presidential election.
The Alaafin of Oyo has also commended the Governor for always speaking up which has put the Federal Government on its toes.
Both parties spoke at different events. Musa Spoke at the wedding of the daughter of a former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko while The Alaafin spoke at the fifth convocation of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti.
This was revealed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi.
Musa said, “It is the right of every Nigerian to aspire to the office of the President of Nigeria. Anybody from any section of the country, who has met the constitutional requirements can vie for the presidency. There should be no restriction because the country is in need of a right leader.”
“Whoever that will emerge will be president of Nigeria, not the president of a section. Fayose is exercising his right; it is wrong for anybody to vilify him for declaring his ambition. The man is bold, courageous and has put the Buhari government on its toes. Anybody having interest should come out so that we can compare,” he said.
Speaking of the PDP’s zoning rule, Musa said that the country is filled with insecurity, poverty and hunger which has led to his agitation. He added that let all who have interest vote and come up with a presidential candidate after the primaries instead of limiting it to zoning.
Corroborating Musa’s support for Fayose’s bid was The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Adeyemi who lauded the achievements of Fayose in his State and for putting the Federal Government on Its toes.
“Fayose is bold and fearless; he has put the Buhari government on its toes. All efforts to silence him with the Federal Government’s agencies have not succeeded in keeping his mouth shut. Opposition is an ingredient of a virile democracy; the Federal Government should be tolerant of the opposition,” Oba Adeyemi said.
“Even where others tactically withdrew into their shells, Fayose became the lone voice. I salute him (Okunrin takuntakun ni). If you drive through the state capital, you are likely to miss your way because of the legacy projects that have changed the face of the town. Seeing is believing, it is a reality. I congratulate the governor,” the monarch said.”
Meanwhile, events have been that Fayose has openly declared his intentions to contest for President in 2019 which is against the stipulated PDP zoning rule which zones 2019 Presidential Candidate of the PDP to the North Central.
