According to information available, the visit was basically to perfect Akpabio’s planned defection from the People’s Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Recalled that Senator Akpabio had also met with the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo about two days before he proceeded to London to meet Buhari.
Akpabio’s visitation was confirmed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly (Senate), Senator Ita Enang.

In the words of Enang, “He has finished the London meeting with the President. He is the minority leader and for someone of his status to come over to your party you need to discuss with him at the highest level.”
He further disclosed that the senator would be welcomed to the party by the Vice President and other Chieftains of the APC in two days time.
Recalled also that President Muhammadu Buhari had handed over the affairs of the country to his Vice as required by the constitution last week Friday when he proceeded on his vacation trip to the United Kingdom.
