You are a monumental failure, PDP blasts Aregbesola as tenure ends

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State has called out Governor Rauf Aregbesola, describing his eight years tenure as a monumental failure.It argued that the governor will go down in history of the state as the worst since the return of democratic rule in 1999.

PDP said contrary to what the governor was making people to believe as achievement in infrastructure and human capital, “Aregbesola is leaving the state worse than how he met it in 2010”.

Buhari, Sultan, Sanusi speak on Nigeria’s unity

Presidency reacts to APC bye-election victories in Bauchi, Katsina, Kwara

The Presidency has spoken on the All Progressives Congress (APC) victories in the last 24 hours.

In the bye-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday, November 17, 2019, the APC swept the seats in three federal constituencies in Katsina State, three in Kwara State, and another in Bauchi State.

“This is a sign of things to come in the 2019 elections”, Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President, said in a statement on Sunday.

NDLEA intercepts 581 million Tramadol tablets in 2 days

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has seized 241 million Tramadol tablets in 11 containers, weighing 118 metric tonnes.

Head of Public Affairs of the agency, Mr Jonah Achema, said in a statement on Sunday in Abuja that the seizure was made at the Apapa Port in Lagos.

The agency had earlier uncovered 340 million Tramadol tablets in 12 containers on November 15 at the port.

The containers had been on the watch-list of the NDLEA since November 2017.

They were taken to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for search, based on the agency’s reasonable suspicion that they contained the drug.

Police question 21-year-old student who allegedly killed her baby

The police in Enugu State have arrested a 21 year-old student for allegedly killing her baby soon after delivery.

The spokesman for the Police Command in Enugu State, SP Ebere Amaraizu, in a statement on Sunday said the suspect, Sandra Dimbo, allegedly carried out the action at Royal Lodge, Agbani, Nkanu West Local Government Area, on Saturday.

“It was gathered that the mother of the late infant was said to have given birth to the baby on Nov. 17 and allegedly killed the child immediately after birth inside her room before the arrival of neighbours.

“It was further gathered that on that fateful day, the cry of a baby was heard in the suspect’s room which attracted neighbours to her room but they could not gain access until they forced themselves in.

Fire destroys 77 shops in Kano market

The Kano State Fire Service said fire has destroyed 77 temporary shops at Kasuwar Kurmi (‘Yan Gumama) Market in Kano.

The Spokesman of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Saidu Mohammed told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Sunday that 70 of the shops were razed down completely.

“we received a distress call early hours of (Sunday morning) at about 07:35 a.m from one Aliyu Ibrahim that there was fire outbreak at the market.

”On receiving the information, we quickly sent some of our personnel and fire fighting vehicle to the scene of the incident at about 07: 43 a.m to quench the fire so as not to affect other shops,“ he said.

The spokesman said that 70 of the shops were completely razed down while seven shops were saved due to the quick intervention of the firemen.

NDIC says N28.48bn recovered from debtors of DMBs in-liquidation

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), said it recovered N28.48 billion from debtors of Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in-liquidation as at Dec. 31, 2017.

Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, NDIC’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer said this in the Corporation’s 2017 Annual Report, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

Ibrahim said the sum was higher than the N28.16 billion realised in 2016.

“To date, a total of N125.13 million was realised from debtors of closed Microfinance Banks (MFB) as at Dec. 31, 2017.

“Debt recoveries from Primary Mortgage Banks (PMBs) increased by 22.60 per cent from N195.17 million in 2016 to N239.27million in 2017.

2019: Buhari kickstarts campaign at 5pm

President Muhammadu Buhari will today between 5pm and 8pm unveil what his presidential campaign council called ‘The Next Level’ to Nigerians at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The INEC Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2019 general elections indicated that formal campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections begin today, Nov. 18.

Festus Keyamo, Director, Strategic Communications for the President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation, said the ‘Next Level’ is one of two documents the president will present today ahead of full blown campaign.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has decided to first showcase his achievements and projections for the next four years to Nigerians before the official flag-off of the campaigns.
