1. Stop bandits before they near Abuja – Shehu Sani tasks military

The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, has reacted to military report that bandits are now relocating to Kaduna and Niger States.

He confirmed the report to be true, adding that people living in Kamuku and Alawa villages within the two states had earlier reported the presence of dangerous strangers.

Senator Sani warned that the bandits may soon find their way towards the Federal Capital Territory if the right move was not made to stop them.

2. Afenifere identifies qualities Buhari must consider before picking ministers

The Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has highlighted qualities President Muhammadu Buhari should look out for in constituting his next cabinet.

Afenifere’s spokesperson, Yinka Odumakin, in a chat with DAILY POST on Saturday, said Buhari’s next ministers should be picked on the basis of what they can deliver.

He stated that Buhari’s next set of ministers should be those who understand the situation of Nigeria.

3.Boko Haram: Army reveals those working against Nigeria

The Nigerian Army on Saturday alleged that some unpatriotic individuals, groups and foreign interests were working against the security situation in the country in particular and West African Sub-region in general.

It said they were making concerted efforts to further induce ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists and bandits with funds and other logistic support.

Colonel Sagir Musa, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, in a statement said their body language and unguarded utterances seem to be in tandem with the above and imply tacit support for the criminals.

4. Another Nigerian stabbed to death in South Africa

President of Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA), Ben Okoli, says a Nigerian, Mr Okechukwu Henry, from Imo State, has been stabbed to death by unknown South African robbers.

The NICASA president said this in a letter to the Consul-General, Nigerian Consulate Johannesburg, South Africa.

A copy of the letter was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.

5. Cardinal Onaiyekan raises alarm over insecurity in Nigeria

Former Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Eminence John Onaiyekan, has urged the Federal Government to address the insecurity along Abuja/Kaduna road.

Onaiyekan made the call in Abuja on Saturday at a pre-conference briefing with the theme: “Action Against Irregular Migration of Nigerians” scheduled for May 7.

According to him, it is sad that Nigerians are now at the mercy of kidnappers who carry out their criminal activities and demand ransom without fear.

6. Atiku’s nationality: Arewa youths attack APC, say party has nothing to offer Nigerians

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYFC, on Saturday weighed in on controversies surrounding the nationality of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, 2019 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking with DAILY POST, President General of AYCF, Yerima Shettima described the claim that Abubakar was not a Nigerian as an insult to the former Vice President.

He insisted that the ruling APC was confused and has clearly shown that they have nothing to offer this country.

7. Police launch Operation Puff Adder in Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has launched Operation Puff Adder in Calabar, the State capital.

Launching the operation, the State Commissioner of Police, Austin Agbonlahor said that the launch was in line with the Inspector General of Police’s directives that the operation be launch in the state.

“You may recalled that on April 5, 2019, the inspector General of Police, (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar had launched a special operation code name ” Operation Puff Adder” to tackle emerging insecurity challenges especially kidnapping, armed robbery banditry among others crimes along Abuja-Kaduna express way and other parts of the country.

8. Oni’s suspension splits APC in Ekiti

What could be regarded as a wide gulf is now existing among leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State over the suspension of former governor Segun Oni from the party for anti-party activities.

Leaders of the party in the two wards in Ifaki Ekiti, in Ido/Osi local government, had condemned the suspension and branded it as shameful and illegal, having allegedly violated the procedures of the party.

Those who signed the statement from the two wards rejecting the party’s position are: Michael Durodola, Tayo Okanlawon, Ebenezer Ogunlana and Sola Ilori.

10. Couple sells three-day-old child for N300,000 in Anambra

A couple, Chinonso and Oluebube Anyawu, has allegedly sold their three-day-old son for N300,000.

DAILY POST gathered from a source that the couple had three daughters before they got the male child.

The source said, “We were surprised that a family with such history could behave this way by selling their only son.”

The couple, who hails from Imo State, allegedly sold the baby to one Sandra Odimege of Umuezike, Amorka, in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, where the baby was found with her.

Former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, says Nigerian citizens should observe a day of weeping every month.

The Nation reports that he said this during the weekend at a symposium to mark the birthday party of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.

Speaking on Nigeria’s population and the revenue it generates, Aregbesola said: “We don’t remember that we are poor here in Nigeria. If we have a deep thought, we ought to have a day of weeping every month.

2. Goodluck Jonathan speaks on alleged withdrawal of billions from CBN

Former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to alleged withdrawal of billions of Naira from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, while he was in office.

The former president, who spoke at a meeting organised by the Anglican Community in Abuja on Friday, described the allegation as false and misleading.

He expressed sadness and disappointment at those spreading such allegations.

3. Boko Haram: Red Cross begins construction of 3,000 houses for Yobe returnees

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has disclosed that the incident that befell its workers in Borno state last year has forced them to slowdown their humanitarian activities in Yobe state.

Head, Damaturu Sub-delegation, Farrukh Khan disclosed this at the breaking of Ramadan fast Saturday, organised by the ICRC to honor communities where it operates withing the state.

Khan said, “the ICRC Damaturu Sub-delegation which is in charge of Yobe state had reduced the number of activities for the past eight months following the unfortunate incident involving two of our colleagues in Borno state last year.

4. Airport Safety: FG happy with measures taken by Enugu Govt – Minister

The Minister of State, Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, Saturday, expressed satisfaction with steps taken by the Enugu State government in a bid to improve safety at the Akanu Ibiam international Airport, Enugu.

This is as the Enugu State Government had earlier in the day commenced demolition of shops at the Orie Emene Market, considered as threat to the Airport.

The demolition followed a directive by the State government.

5. NYSC reacts to death of Kogi coordinator of scheme

Mrs Zainab Isah, Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nasarawa State, has expressed sadness over the death of Mrs Oludolapo Ahile, the Kogi NYSC coordinator.

DAILY POST reports that Mrs Ahile, alongside her husband, Mr Michael Ahile and two other passengers, were involved in a ghastly motor crash in Azuba, which led to her death on Friday.

Reacting while addressing newsmen on Saturday in Lafia, Idah said staff of the scheme in the state were deeply saddened over the demise of Ahile.
She commended Gov. Umaru Al-Makura and the NYSC Director General (DG), Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, for promptly offering assistance to those affected in the incident.

6. APC blows hot, warns chieftain in Abia

Abia state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned a chieftain of the party in the state, Damian Igbokwe, for allegedly disseminating false information about the APC leadership through some online media platforms.

The party alerted the general public to the existence of fake platforms in the name of the party (APC), aiming to misinform and undermine the leadership of the party in the state.

7. Fani-Kayode reacts as FG claims Atiku, PDP planning coup

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode,
has reacted to claims by the Federal Govenement that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, were working to make Nigeria ungovernable with the intention of overthrowing President Muhammadu Buhari.

DAILY POST had reported that Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, at the 2019 edition of the Annual Ramadan Lecture held at Oro, Kwara State, declared that the opposition were trying “reverse” democracy.

According to him, Atiku and the PDP were carrying out acts to undermine the Buhari government just to heat up the polity.

8. Juventus president reveals who made decision for Allegri’s departure

Juventus president, Andrea Agnelli, has claimed that it was outgoing boss, Max Allegri, who made the decision to leave the club.

Speaking at a press conference to pay tribute to Allegri, Agnelli refused to discuss the club’s next manager.

The Bianconeri announced on Friday that the 51-year-old would be departing the club at the end of the season despite having a year left on his contract.

Allegri has won five successive Serie A titles since replacing Antonio Conte in 2014.

9. Five arrested for kidnapping, robbery in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested five suspects over kidnapping, armed robbery and motor cycle theft in different part of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammadu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Minna.

He said on May 4, acting on information from a Good Samaritan, a team of policemen from SARS intercepted a stolen vehicle on Suleja-Lambata road.

10. Adamawa govt treats 117 rape cases, plans special court

An agency of the Adamawa State Government, established to give respite to rape victims, has received 117 cases of rape and prosecuted 12 as the government steps up efforts to constitute a special court to try rape suspects.

The state Commissioner of Justice, Barr. Bala Sanga, disclosed this in Yola during an interaction with a delegation from Centre for Women and Adolescents Empowerment, a non governmental organisation based in the state.

He said that as part of preparations for the special court, the Department of Citizens Right of the Ministry of Justice had trained lawyers to carry out certain functions.
