NSCDC Rescues Suspected Cable Vandal From Mob

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ilorin has rescued a suspect, Isaac Jolugba of Oke Isinku compound, Egbe, Kogi , from an angry mob, after he had vandalised an armoured cable of a transformer at irewolede, Akerebiata, Ilorin, Kwara.

The Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC command in the state, Mr Ayodele Bello, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the suspect traveled all the way from Kogi to commit the act in Ilorin.

Bello said that the suspect disconnected the cables from the transformer before he was caught by two men from the area who alerted members of the community.

He said that the suspect was thoroughly beaten and injured before some good Samaritans called the attention of  the NSCDC.

The Commandant of the corps, Mr Adeyinka Fasiu, called on the public to cooperate with security operatives by monitoring critical infrastructure in their area and report any suspicious acts for prompt intervention.

The suspect told NIGERIA NEWS that he had done many menial jobs before now, including truck driving.

“I could not get a job for two weeks, so I decided to come to Ilorin to search for a job, so around 5 a.m. in the morning, on Thursday, I was walking along Irewolede, Akerebiata, Ilorin, when I saw the cables.

“So, I decided to cut the cables and sell them for money, but I was caught immediately I finished cutting them,” he said.

The suspect has been arraigned in court.
