NYSC Condemns Attack Of Corps Members In Cross River

NYSC Assures Corps members Of Protection During Elections

News reaching NIGERIA NEWS reveals that Armed robbers have attacked some members of the  National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Akamkpa local government area of Cross River State.

Reports reveal that “the robbers, armed with locally-made pistols, machete and other dangerous weapons, invaded the corpers’ lodge in the early hours of Tuesday and made away with property estimated at several hundreds of thousands.”

Eyewitness report reveals that this kind of attack is the first of it’s kind.

Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson of the NYSC, Abdullahi Yuguda expressed his disdain on the situation.

“The incident happened on Tuesday in Akamkpa local government area of the State. It took place in the early hours. Our State Coordinator Ambekemo Eniola was not happy with the situation and has expressed displeasure over the event.”

“She condemned the attitude of the locals and saw it as embarrassment and disgrace given that the sons and daughters of the state are been handled as kings and queens in other states in the federation.”

“She has reported the incident to appropriates quarters including the Police and other security agencies, traditional rulers in the area, leadership of National Youth Council of Nigeria and others.”

“They are putting their hands together to ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are brought to book. For us the action is very bad, the state was rated very high when it comes to hospitality but faced with this kind of crime, it is very bad,” he stated.

According to the PRO, “the affected corps members were the entire members of Christian Association Corpers’ fellowship. They came there to get themselves set before move to various places of primary assignment in Akamkpa.”

“You can imagine over 90 percent of the corps member posted there but attacked by armed robbers around 3-4am on Tuesday. So far nobody has been arrested but the DPO, Commissioner of Police and other relevant security agencies have been alerted.”

He, however, said that “NYSC is computing all the losses with a view to channelling it to the state government for payment as it is the state’s responsibility to provide adequate security to corps members.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Irene Ugbo, when contacted, claimed ignorance of the incident, saying: “I am not aware but when I get to the office, I will find out”. When several calls were extended to her again after many hours, they rang out”

The date for the NYSC revalidation for Batch B mobilization is set on May 6tth and it will run through till May 25, 2019, “Uploading of Senate/Academic Board Approved Results for Full/Part-Time Graduates and Revalidation Lists by CPIs”

“Submission of Senate/Academic Board Approved Results for Full/Part-Time Graduates and Revalidation Lists by CPIs” will commence May 25th – 30th May 2019.

The timetable published on the official NYSC portal shows that the “Online Registration by Foreign and locally Trained Nigerian Graduates” will commence 27th May – 12th June 2019.

Also, the foreign students are not left out in the timetable as NYSC set their on Revalidation from 27th May till 12th of June 2019, this for both foreign students who schooled in Nigeria and those who school abroad according to NYSC news portal

In addition to the above, “Notification and Printing of Call-up Letters by PCMs” will commence 15th – 17th June 2019 with ” Online Printing of Deployment Disposition by Corps Producing Institutions/Delivery of manual Call-up letters to Institutions” expected to kick off simultaneously.

Meanwhile, Orientation course for the Batch starting date when not made mention of, this should mean NYSC should be waiting for another timetable for that ” Commencement of 2019 Batch “B” Orientation Course” will hold.

  1. NYSC To Pay Corpers New Minimum Wage

The Hon. Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, in Abuja on Thursday stated that the Federal Government would increase the allowance of the National Youth Service Corps members to the new minimum wage of N30,000.

She noted that aside the increase of the new minimum wage from N18,000 to N30,000, there is also a consequential adjustment that we have to negotiate with the labour unions.

She said there is no grey spot as regards the increment of NYSC members’ allowances, that they should earn nothing less than the new minimum wage.

  1. (NYSC), Oludolapo Ahile, has died in an auto crash.

The Kogi state coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Oludolapo Ahile died in a ghastly motor accident of Thursday after her vehicle somersaulted twice. The Assistant Director, Public Relations, Kogi NYSC, Adedapo Tayo made this known that the coordinator was involved in an accident alongside her husband around the Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia highway in Nasarawa State.

The coordinator and her husband with other two were on their way to Benue for the burial rites of her father-in-law. She and other occupants of the car was said to be taken to the hospital but the coordinator was not able to survive it, while the others were said to have survived the crash.

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, announced on Thursday, the increment of allowances of members of the National Youth Service Corps to new minimum wage of N30,000.

This was made known during a press briefing of her ministry’s activities. She, however, noted that modalities are still being put in place for the implantation of the new monthly stipends.

She said that report on the financial implications of the new minimum wage have been submitted by the Presidential Committee set up by Buhari, but one thing that is clear is that the corps members allowances would be increased.
