President Muhammadu Buhari reveals through the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed that the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC minimum wage would take effect soonest and that there could be addition to the approved 30,000 minimum wage. She said that the federal government is now arranging a meeting with labour union for negotiation, NIGERIA NEWS reports.
The NIGERIA NEWS gathered that it is after the negotiation that the amount of increase to the minimum wage would be determined. The minister said during her briefing with some newsmen on Thursday in Abuja where she quotes that:
“Apart from the increase of the minimum wage from N18,000 to N30,000, there is also a consequential adjustment that we have to negotiate with the labour unions,”
“The total implication of that would be worked out only after the negotiations and that would involve determining how much increase every other employee above the minimum wage would get.
“It could be a flat amount or a proportion, but the other aspect that is clear is that there would be an increase for the National Youth Service Corps as well because, by the Act, they should earn at least the minimum wage and the NYSC also has to increase to that N30, 000.
“So, because we have not done the negotiation with labour, I cannot give you the details of what we are projecting because it is simply on projections.”
The NIGERIA NEWS platform would surely bring to you every update on NYSC minimum wage increment to newly approved minimum wage.
NYSC gives Prospective Corps Members travelling tips
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has revealed some travelling tips to Prospective Corps Members (PCM) who will be travelling across the length and breadth of the country to the various NYSC Camps for the exercise.
The Orientation Programme for the 2019 Batch “B” Stream 1 Corps Members will commence tomorrow, Tuesday, 18th June 2019 nationwide.
The Corps urged PCMs tp adhere strictly to the following tips:
- Every successful journey starts with a travel plan. PCMs, are enjoined to make adequate travel preparation before setting out on the journey. Therefore, you must ensure and crosscheck that you’ve packed all the relevant documents that will be requested at the point of registration. This is to guard against the danger of being asked to go back home and fetch the forgotten documents. Doing so will overexpose you to our roads fraught with so many risks.
Kindly research your destinations thoroughly before leaving.
3, On no account should you board a vehicle by the roadside because of seemingly attractive cheap fare. It is highway to calamity. So many have fallen preys to armed robbers, kidnappers and ritualists due to such indiscreet action. You should board vehicles only from recognised parks.
- Please, be conscious of your travel time. Journeys must be arranged in such a way that you arrive your destination latest 6 pm. Note that if it’s not possible to arrive your destination at the aforesaid time, please, break the journey.
Avoid unnecessary argument/discussion bordering on politics and religion, among others. You may unwittingly cause offence. Keep your views to yourself.
Be courteous, but don’t trust people too quickly and don’t be loud while answering telephone calls, so as not to unknowingly divulge information that may place you on harm’s way.
Watch your drinking habit. Alcohol dulls your senses. Always be sober.
Take only what you need for the journey. Don’t overburden yourself with load.
Dress normal. Don’t overdress. Conversely, don’t dress shabbily, since either way, you unduly stand out.
Please, keep a very close watch over your personal effects. It is advisable that you carry your vital documents (certificates, International passport etc) on you.
Don’t put valuables in your back pocket for that’s always the pickpocket’s first point of call. It’s safer to use your front pocket.
Keep your family and trusted friends updated on your itinerary.
The Director – General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim wishes you travel mercies, as you proceed to the respective camps in obedience to the clarion call to serve the Nation for one calendar year.
