Festus Keyamo (SAN) Says Former Heads Of State, Obasanjo And Babangida Do Not Qualify To Advise Nigerians
Respected Human Rights Activist, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has responded to the recent letters written to President Muhammadu Buhari by former Heads of State, Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.
According to Mr Keyamo, due to the fact that both men have once ruled the country and could not do much, then they have no business charting a way forward now.
Recall that Nigeria News reported when Obasanjo wrote a 13-page statement condemning Buhari’s Government and advising him not to seek a second term and also brought to you the news that Ibrahim Babangida told Nigerians to vote President Buhari out of office in 2019.
Talking about these two letters to the President, Keyamo told Channels TV, on its program, ‘Sunday Politics,’ that both former leaders do not necessarily believe in democracy and noted that Obasanjo had sought to even rule for a third term
In Keyamo’s words: “These two leaders cannot show us the roadmap – because they had opportunities in the past and bungled them.
“Babangida spent N40billion on a transition programme to nowhere; eight years to nowhere.
“These are people who have been involved in the past in selection process, military coups, and all of that; so they don’t still believe in democracy.”
The Lagos lawyer advised President Buhari to, however, look into the valid issues raised by both elder statesmen like the killings by herdsmen and the economic downturn.
