President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed the appointment of erstwhile Trade Minister Bello Maitama-Yusuf as a member of NRC which is the Nigerian Railway Corporation’s Board of Directors,.
Auwal Sankara, Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor of Jigawa State, affirmed the arrangement and disclosed that Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, Governor of the State, appointed Maitama-Yusuf.
“In recognition of his hard work, resilience and steadfastness in the progress of APC and development of Jigawa State and Nigeria at large, the Governor of Jigawa State Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has facilitated the appointment of Senator Bello Maitama Yusuf as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).” – Auwal Sankara’s Facebook page reads
Maitama-Yusuf, a 74-year-old, was appointed Minister of Interior in 1978 and later Minister of Commerce in 1982.
He represented Jigawa South-West between 1999 and 2007 in the National Assembly’s Upper Chamber, first on the platform of the All Nigeria People’s Party, ANPP.
He later became a member of the PDP following ANPP’s defection.
He was Jigawa State’s candidate for governorship in 2007.
From 1983 to 1985, President Buhari had blamed Maitama-Yusuf for corrupt practices in his military routine.
Nevertheless, the former minister went into exile to avoid arraignment.
The Appointment letter reads:
“Pursuant to section 5 of the Nigerian Railway Corporation Act cap. N129, LFN2004, and all powers enabling the Honourable Minister of Transportation in that behalf, and consequent upon your nomination by the governor of Jigawa State, I am pleased to inform you of your appointment by the Honourable Minister, as a member of the Directors of Nigerian Railway Corporation.
“Your tenure of appointment shall commence on the date of inauguration of the board and shall subsist at the pleasure of the President of the Federal republic of Nigeria, pursuant to Section 8 of the above-referenced Act.”

Reports reaching NIGERIA NEWS have already shown that General Ibrahim Babangida, the retired army and head of state, is alive contradictory to speculations about his death.
Vanguard claims that even an online content published the former president passed on Friday, May 17. In futherance, the content claimed that Babangida is hailing and heartfelt and always bubbling with life.
According to findings, NIGERIA NEWS gathered that an anonymous source told Vanguard correspondents that the retired army general broke today’s Ramadan fast together with friends and family. This he did at his Hilltop Mansion on Friday, May 17.
The source said:
“It is normal that during fasting like this, all the children of the former Military president normally come to Minna in and break fast with him.
”Not only that, Babangida normally break his fast with many of his friends and other relatives and he has been doing so since this year’s fasting started including yesterday and as you know, the dead cannot break fast with the living and that is to tell you that the man IBB is still alive and not dead and still bubbling with life,”
He also added that, “This is to tell you that the man is still very healthy and a testimony that he will still live long,”
