Outgoing kwara state government in trouble as EFCC arrests four

EFCC arraigns top Kwara State Officials

Four Kwara State Government Officials were arraigned on Thursday by The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office over suspected money laundering.

The four Government Officials appeared at the Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin presided by Justice Babangana Ashigar.

The suspects includes:  Abubakar Ishiak (Permanent Secretary), Shina Mudasir Akorede (Director of Administration and Finance), Rasaq Momonu (Controller Finance and Account), and Hafees Yusuf, (Cashier).

In a statement at a press conference in Abuja, the EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade reads one of the counts:

“That you, Abubakar Ishiak, being the Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Government House, Shina Mudasir Akorede, being the Director of Administration and Finance, Rasaq Momonu, being the Controller of Finance and Account, Kwara State Government House, and Hafees Yusuf, being the Cashier of Kwara State Government House on or about the 14th day of February 2019 at Ilorin, Kwara State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did make a cash payment of N20,300,000 (Twenty Million, Three Hundred Thousand Naira) only to one Energy Multi-Trade Unique Interbiz Limited through the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Jimoh Sarafadeen Kolade for services rendered to Kwara State Government House, which cash sum exceeded the limitation of N10 million payable to a body corporate and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1 (b) and Punishable under section 16 of the same Act.”

However, they all pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Prosecutor Christopher Mschelia, therefore requested that the court set a trial date as the suspects remained in EFCC custody which was considered by Justice Ashigar as the oral bail application made by the defense counsel, Abdulwahab Bamidele, was denied.

The formal hearing for the bail application has been adjourned to May 8 while the trial will begin on June 6.

Reports reaching NIGERIA NEWS have already shown that General Ibrahim Babangida, the retired army and head of state, is alive contradictory to speculations about his death.

Vanguard claims that even an online content published the former president passed on Friday, May 17. In futherance, the content claimed that Babangida is hailing and heartfelt and always bubbling with life.

According to findings, NIGERIA NEWS gathered that an anonymous source told Vanguard correspondents that the retired army general broke today’s Ramadan fast together with friends and family. This he did at his Hilltop Mansion on Friday, May 17.

The source said:

“It is normal that during fasting like this, all the children of the former Military president normally come to Minna in and break fast with him.

”Not only that, Babangida normally break his fast with many of his friends and other relatives and he has been doing so since this year’s fasting started including yesterday and as you know, the dead cannot break fast with the living and that is to tell you that the man IBB is still alive and not dead and still bubbling with life,”

He also added that, “This is to tell you that the man is still very healthy and a testimony that he will still live long,”
