EPL Side, Southampton FC Gives Coach Mauricio Pellegrino Marching Orders
Relegation-threatened side, Southampton FC has acted swiftly and decisively in order to arrest a slump in form that has seen them slip to the 17th position and just one point ahead of the relegation places in the English Premier League.
This is by sacking their manager, Mauricio Pellegrino, after the Saints lost their Matchday 30 fixture against Newcastle by three goals to nothing.
That was the last reverse result under Pellegrino who has overseen just one victory in his last 17 games as manager at the St. Mary’s Club side.
The club’s decision to part ways with the Argentine tactician was announced yesterday through a statement published on the club’s official website.
As obtained by NIGERIA NEWS, the statement read: “We would like to place on record our thanks to Mauricio, Carlos and Xavier for their efforts during their time with Southampton, and wish them well for the future.
“The club will look to appoint a new management team as soon as possible, with the search for a replacement already underway.”
Pellegrino was manager of Southampton for 8 months, starting from June 2017. During this time, he led the team out 34 times; winning 8 times, losing 13 and drawing 13 also.
No manager has been announced by the Club’s board yet even as they face two crucial fixtures; an FA Cup Quarter-final against Wigan on Sunday and an away relegation battle match against West Ham on March 31st.
