On Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari was given an invite by the House of Representatives, to address the measures taken to tackle the rising cases of killings, banditry, armed robbery and kidnappings in the country.
This was followed by a motion moved by Rep. Ahmed Dayyabu – Safana (APC – Kastina) on the urgent “Need for federal government’s intervention on the ongoing wanton killing of innocent persons, Destruction of Property, Armed Robbery and Kidnappings by Heavily Armed Bandits Operating within Safana/Batasari/Dansau Federal Constituency” at plenary, NAN reports.
Dayyabu – Safana reported that within his constituency many people had been killed by armed bandits, in some of the villages located there.
A state of emergency was immediately suggested in the federal constituency as an immediate response to contain the evil activities caused by the heavily armed bandits.
He went further to reveal more and had this to say, “The recent spate of them said attacks on members of my constituency had reached an alarming stage as the perpetrators of this act continuously kill innocent persons in my constituency.
“They set their homes ablaze while defenseless men and women are abducted to an unknown destination.
“Up to four villages within my constituency are currently under attack in the last 48 hours.
“The villages are Massa in Batasari Local Government Area, where no fewer than five persons have been killed, Alhazawa in Safana LGA has been displaced. Guzurawa village in Safana LGA also has several persons murdered in cold blood.
“And just yesterday, Gobirawa Village came under attack with no fewer than 12 dead bodies littered in the bush while many are still missing.
“These killings have continued unabated, and these bandits seem to be unstoppable with a specific instance at Gobirawa Village in Safana LGA.
“The bereaved villagers there are forced to abandon the corpses during the burial and scamper for safety when they sighted the bandits coming back to launch another offensive.”
The bandits, who operated at night and in broad daylight on motorbikes, paraded sophisticated weapons including an AK 47 assault rifles, as he expressed more concerns.
He also added that in his constituency, these bandits paraded other dangerous weapons that they used in committing heinous crimes against his constituents.
The lawmaker expressed grave concerns and disappointments towards security operatives who appeared not too responsive to distress calls, in spite of persistent cries from the affected communities.
He also said in a press conference that, “The fundamental duty of any government is the protection and preservation of lives and property by being responsive in the face of this type of cruelty and atrocity committed against its citizen.
“It is the constitutional duty and responsibility of this hallowed chamber to take action whenever these levels of inhuman and brutal attacks are being inflicted on any community or group of people.”
Rep. Bashir Babale (APC – Kano), contributed, “Infrastructure has collapsed where banditry takes place” as he made a comparison between the former administration with the present one.
He said that the accusation of being docile labeled on the former administration was wrong.
Rep. Gabriel Onyenweife (APGA – Anambra) also made his contribution by saying that, “Nigeria is not a safe country. The executive should take the lead and lead Nigeria from a failed security state”.
Similarly, Rep. Chika Adamu (APC – Niger), who with tears lamented, that the present government must urgently find a solution to the problem.
“We must do something, Mr. Speaker, I can’t go to my village and spend a night since the last one year,” he added.
Rep Useni Moriki (APC – Zamfara) added that situations are not safe in his local government.
“What happened in Yobe, in Borno in the northeast is now happening in the northwest, in Zamfara, in my local government,” he added while addressing the house.
Also, Rep. Abiante Awaji – Inombek (PDP – Rivers) added that this was a case of different strokes for different people.
He said in his closing remarks while addressing the house that, “Here we are, convinced that we have a problem on our hand but outside of this place, some will tell you that Nigeria is more secure than before. That tells you that we are not on the same page,”
Mr. Yakubu Dogara, a member of the house, said, since the issue of banditry has become a national issue, it was essential that the president Muhammadu Buhari, be invited.
The motion was unanimously adopted by members of the house when it was put to a voice vote by the Speaker.
The federal government was urged by the House to quickly deploy the military to the areas under attack to aid the police force and other security agencies in flushing out lawbreakers operating in the constituency.
This move called for the declaration of a state of emergency in the affected areas while urging the National Emergency Agency (NEMA) to make available relief materials to the attack victims quickly.

The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has endorsed Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila representing the Surulere Federal Constituency, as the speaker of the house of representative, NIGERIA NEWS reports.
Mr. Femi said he is happy for the support of the Governor as he has been soliciting for his support and the support of other elected house of representative.
The Governor pleads to the lawmaker to work in a team with Mr. Femi by not considering any political association. The All Progressives Congress, APC also preferred the candidate and ready to support him.
The Governor also urged the house of representative in the state to be in support of Mr. Femi and ensure he is successful.

EFCC issues statement AFter Naira Marley’s Arraignment
On Monday, May 20, The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), arraigned Nigerian artiste, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known with stage name, Naira Marley, before Justice Nicholas I. Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Naira Merley was arraigned on an 11-count charge bordering on cybercrime, of which he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo asked the court for trial date, while Counsel to the defendant, Taiwo Oluwa Ore- Agba, asked the court for a date to hear the bail application on behalf of his client.
Justice Oweibo, however adjourned the case to May 30, 2019, and ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody pending the hearing of the bail application.

Kano Emirate Tussle: Gov asks Rano Emir to Sanction Sanusi over Resignation
The Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje has directed the Emir of Rano to sanction the district head of Bebeji, Haruna Sanusi, over his resignation.
The governor insisted that the New Emirate has come to stay. Sanusi had earlier resigned as the district head of Babeji in protest against the new Emirate.
Ganduje utilized the opportunity of the condolence visit he made on Sunday to Emir of Rano following the passing on of the wife of Justice Wada Rano, Hajiya Khadija Wada Rano. He assured everyone that the New Emirates would be in the best interest of the state.

Insecurity: Gunmen invaded ECWA Church in Kaduna state, Kidnap pastor and 16 Members
Suspected kidnappers invaded Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Dankade, Kaduna State as they went away with the senior Pastor of the church, Rev. Zakariah Ido and 16 members of the church.
Kaduna state, for some time now have been a fertile ground for armed banditry, kidnapping and varying violent attacks.
It was gathered that the pastor and 16 other were seized during Sunday’s service, among those kidnapped were the daughter of the pastor and the son of the pastor of Assemblies of God Church. They also carted away the phones of the members of the church.
