The super Eagles will look to continue their African cup of Nations Qualifier (AFCON) after the conclusion of the world cup where it ended with mixed emotions after losing out to Argentina in the group stage.
Nigeria will want to respond to their first defeat in the qualifiers when they face Seychelles also known as the Pirates on Saturday, September 8 2019. It was speculated that the match would be taken place the previous day but it was later confirmed by the Seychelles Football Federation.
The Seychelles Football federation have confirmed that the match will be played at the Stade Linite on the Mahe Island. Time is set at 1:30 pm Nigerian time and 4:30 pm Seychelles time.
Not many Nigerian fans are familiar with Seychelles. The country is made up of 115 islands on the western Indian Ocean. Their population will be in the region of 100,000 and they are also located East Africa.
This weekend clash between the West African country and east African country is said to be crucial for both sides after having to lose their opening games to South Africa and Libya respectively. Both teams will not afford to have another setback because it reduces their chances of qualifying for the AFCON in 2019.
Nigeria will be expected to come on top as they possess more threats in front of goal, balance in the midfield and a stable defence. So far up till this time, Nigeria and Seychelles are yet to face each other, whether in a friendly or any competition.
Seychelles form has been as poor in recent matches as they had 0 wins in 6 matches. Having only three draws and three losses will encourage the Super Eagles to go at them and finish them with ease. Though Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has warned that players that it will not be easy to go past through them.
Captain of the Super Eagles is set to miss the game through injury while new players are invited to squad after Victor Moses retirement from international football.
