Riot: Five Lives Lost Over Land Tussle In Cross River
Five people have been reported to have been killed following a dispute over a land between two communities in Cross River State.
The two communities of Bubuo and Okwabang in Boki council are said to have been battling each other over the said land for some years.
The situation took another turn on Saturday as some youths in the two communities resorted to violence which led to the yanking off of the head of five persons while some other people also sustained serious injuries.
Houses and property of residents of the communities were also destroyed in the cause of the battle as youths were seen chanting songs of war.
Information made available to Nigeria News by a resident of one of the communities who pleaded anonymity revealed that Bubuo community lost three persons, while Okwabang community lost two persons.
The source further discloses that many residents of the communities have deserted their homes for the safety of their lives.
He noted that the youths of both communities are seen with dangerous weapons and were freely going about with them as no security operatives have been sighted to curb the situation.
However, when contacted, Miss Irene Ugbo, Cross River Police Command spokesperson said anti-riot officers have been dispatched to the area with immediate effect.
