Senate President Describes Zamfara Killings ‘Senseless’, Calls Security Agencies To Investigate
The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has condemned the gruesome attack on Zamfara community and described it as a senseless act. he made this statement on his social media pages on Friday night.
Recall that the incident occurred on Thursday in Birane Village area with a death toll rising to 41 persons. The incident which happened after gunmen attacked a vehicle conveying bridesmaids and traders to the community market, with reports stating that the armed men slited the throat of the driver and then opened fire on the vehicle, killing every passenger on board.
According to reports, the armed men later proceeded to the community market and started shooting indiscriminately, as traders scampered for safety.
He wrote, “I join all Nigerians in condemning the killing of innocent and defenceless citizens in Birane Village, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
“Such senseless acts have no place in our society. Our security agencies must do all that it takes to find and prosecute the perpetrators.”
Nigeria News had earlier reported the President’s order directing the defence minister to go to Zamfara state in order to get an on the spot assessment of the event.
