Experts Move To End Female Genital Mutilation In Nigeria
Experts have disclosed that about 20 million females in Nigeria have gone through Genital Mutilation.
The experts spoke in Enugu at a seven-day workshop aimed at sensitising electronics media practitioners on the level of FGM as a social and health challenge.
This shocking disclosure has portrayed Nigeria as the highest country with the issue of Female Genital Mutilation.
The disclosure was made by health, religious and media development experts, who have begged for the cooperation of media personnel to help in public enlightenment on the dangers of Female Genital mutilation, FGM, in the country.
The organisers of the workshop, Global Media Campaign to End FGM, Onelife Initiative for Human Development and Human Dignity Foundation focused on training radio reporters on how to reach listeners in the rural and urban communities on the need to abandon FGM.
Present in the occasion were experts like Dr Christopher Ugboko from the Federal Ministry of Health, Reverend Chinedu Nwoye, Senior Special Adviser to the Enugu State Governor; Sola Fagorusi, Programmes and Media Manager of Onelife Initiative for Human Development.
