Russia 2018: Julen Lopetegui Losses His Position As Spain National Coach
Former world champions Spain have fired their manager Julen Lopetegui, 51, just a few hours to the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
It was learnt that his decision to have accepted to become Real Madrid new coach made him to lose his job as Spain coach.
According to the report, President of the Spanish Football Federation Luis Rubiales was said to be so furious when the 2017/2018 Champions League Winners Real Madrid confirmed him (Lopetegui) as their new manager who will replace Zinedine Zidane.
As gathered by NIGERIA NEWS, the Federation are also said to be livid that the 51-year-old Lopetegui was having negotiations with Real Madrid chiefs when the country is preparing for their campaign at the 2018 World Cup.
Lopetegui became Spain manager in 2016 following Vicente del Bosque’s retirement, and remained unbeaten through his reign.
Spain won 14 of 20 games with Lopetegui in charge drawing the remaining six. The 2010 World champions will start their campaign at the 2018 World Cup on Friday, June 15, against Portugal
Meanwhile, NIGERIA NEWS had reported that Spanish club Real Madrid reportedly announced Julen Lopetegui as the new manager to replace outgoing Zinedine Zidane.
