Gernot Rohr Says Vincent Enyeama Cannot Go To The 2018 FIFA World Cup Because He Is Not Playing For Lille
One of the major talking points ahead of the Super Eagles’ Campaign at the 2018 FIFA World Cup In Russia has been put to bed by the gaffer of the National side.
The Super Eagles’ Coach, Gernot Rohr has subsequently put paid to the hopes of three-time World Cup veteran, Vincent Enyeama making it to the squad for this year’s tournament.
As Nigeria News gathered, Rohr noted that due to the extended absence from first-team action of the Lille goalkeeper, there would be no merit in including him in the squad.
This is due to the fact that Enyeama last turned out for the first team of the French Ligue 1 side on April 15, 2017.
Speaking to journalists at the Aiteo/NFF Awards gala held in Lagos on Monday, the national team coach said: “He is not playing anywhere, so we cannot take players who are not playing.
“We are working hard to have the best of our legs taken to Russia and we don’t have the luxury of naming a player that has not been playing in recent time.
“Each time we have a problem, there is always a good answer and I hope it will be the same for the World Cup.
“We currently have so many players in camp and we want to continue monitoring them. The most important thing is for them to be in best shape for the Mundial.’’
