Nigeria’s Contingency At The Africa Wrestling Championships Leads The Medals Table With 21 Medals
Host Nation, Nigeria is currently leading from the front and going strong at the ongoing 2018 Africa Wrestling Championships holding at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Team Nigeria has already racked up 21 medals (9 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze) after 3 days at the Championships which is the best yet so far by all the participating countries.
In the male categories, Nigeria has 11 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze) while their female counterparts have also climbed the podium on 10 occasions with 6 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
One of the revelations of the Championship so far has been a 16-year old student of the Akure High School, Akure Ondo State, Stephen Akintewe.
Stephen won gold in the 60kg cadet event. With still about 2 days to go at the Championships, the teenager is optimistic of earning more podium finishes.
The Team Nigeria Contingent at the Championships is made up of about 90 Wrestlers across various categories.
As gathered by Nigeria News, other countries represented in Port Harcourt include Liberia, Egypt, Morocco, Guinea-Bissau, Tunisia, Algeria, Namibia, Kenya, Burundi, Senegal, Ghana, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Central Africa Republic and Madagascar.
