The artiste started his music career as a street jam and carnival dancer, he danced at shows, carnivals, converts and other shows and met many artists in the course of it. He ended up collaborating with some of them like Slam and Reggie Rockstone. In an interview with Entertainment Express, Patoranking explained that his moniker was given to him by a Jamaican reggae artist he met at Alpha Beach in Lagos in the early days of his career. The artiste who describes his music as a morally inclined variation of dancehall communicates love and socio political issues in his songs, his style of music is influenced by Blackface, Baju Banton, Tuface, Blackky, Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Lucky Dube, Chaka Demus, Majek Fashek and Marvelous Benjy. In 2010, he got signed to K’Solo’s record label and released a single “up in D Club” under the label. In 2013, he became a protogee of Timaya’s Dem Mama Records, he collaborated with Timaya to release his next single “Alubarika” which translates to the Blessings of God. With this single, he captured the attention of many and began his journey to fame as many people got to know him for the first time as a good reggae artist and they began to look forward to more music from him. Alubarika was the singer’s expression of gratitude to God for how well his journey as an artist had turned out at that time.
He signed a new record deal with Foston music in 2014, after ending his affilaitions with Timaya’s Dem Mama Records. He released his back going single “Girlie O” produced by WizzyPro under his new record label and made a video for it. The video which was directed by Moe Musa and shot in london communicated a need to end domestic abuse in relationships, it was also a pointer to victims of domestic violence on the need of summoning courage to leave absuive relationships while they can.
The remix of “Girlie O” which featured the first lady of the Mavin Dynasty Tiwa Savage turned out to be bigger than the actual song. Both the audio and the video were so good that it topped music video charts and gained massive airplay on radio. Patoranking’s next big single was a collaboration with Seyi Shay on her single “Murda” on which also featured Shaydee. The song which was produced by ace producer Dokta Frabz and the video directed by Meji Alabi was a very successful single that dominated the Nigerian music scene for a while. 2015, confirmed Patoranking as a chart topper, he released more singles that blew away lovers of music.
