Trader Land In Court Over Alleged Theft Of Neighbour’s TV

28 Years Old Man Docked For Allegedly Snatching iPhone At Bus Stop

A 38-year-old trader, Emenike Idoko, who allegedly broke into his neighbour’s apartment and stole a plasma television, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The defendant, who resides at No. 32 Aliratu Badek St., Oke-Odo, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of housebreaking and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Rachael Williams, the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 5 at 12.00 p.m. at the same address.

Williams said the defendant broke into the mini flat of the complainant, Mr Amos Oriyomi and stole his LG plasma TV, valued at N95, 000, and  N72, 000 cash.

She said the complainant’s wife called and informed him that a thief had broken into their apartment while she was asleep.

“The complainant reported the case to the police and the defendant was arrested,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 287 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, (Revised).

NIGERIA NEWS reports that both Sections attract three years imprisonment each for anyone found guilty.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Akingbesote, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Akingbesote said the sureties should be gainfully employed and must show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned till March 21, for the mention.
