Medical Professional Says High Consumption Of Processed Food Is Injurious To Health
A don in the medical field with the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Dr Femi Babatunde has dished out a warning to Nigerians on the high rate at which processed foods and drinks are being consumed in the country.
According to the medical professional, frequent consumption of foods and drinks which have been processed are injurious to the healthy living of the consumers.
The Medical expert gave the warning today during his speech in Lokoja. According to him, many Nigerians are ignorant of the fact that too much consumption of processed food damages good health.
He noted that Nigerians are basically concerned with getting fast food to satisfy their immediate appetite especially when they are really hungry.
He also made it known that some of the chemicals used in preserving such foods and drinks are harmful to the body.
Quoting him, “Many Nigerians are ignorantly over addicted to eating processed food which is the cause of an increase in damage to their internal system.”
”Only what people care for now is processed food, which is doing more harm than good to their body. People consuming processed food are killing themselves gradually.”
”Laziness is promoting the passion for processed food as many prefer to buy already made food than prepare it for personally.”
Babatunde, however, recommended that Nigerians should cultivate the habit of eating vegetables and freshly prepared food as this would help ensure healthy living.
The medical don also advised that fatty and too oily foods should be avoided as they are notable for causing heart-related diseases.
He further asked the government to collaborate with medical professionals and bodies in order to enlighten citizens on healthy living.
