Given to the recent defection of the former caretaker chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Eyebrows have started to rise in the political arena of Borno State.
The reasons for the eyebrows is the great possibility that the sudden return of the former governor of Borno state would spark an interesting battle for supremacy between the incumbent governor, Kashim Shettima and Ali Modu Sheriff.
It would be remembered well that in an article published by the Leadership newspaper towards the tail end of 2017, it was categorically adduced by thorough exegesis that the state of Borno has moved past Sheriff.
In essence, the relevance of the former senator and governor is gradually and slowly wining off. But could that really be the factual truth?
The history of the stories of the emergence of Governor Kashim Shettima as the governor of Borno State in 2011 is filled with strings and stunts pulled by Ali Modu Sheriff the then kingmaker of the state to make him the Shettima governor.
However, following an internal discord between the leadership of the ruling party, APC and Ali Modu Sheriff, the latter took to his hills and decamped to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), where he assertively made a mess of his political reputation.
2019 general election draws to an aggressive close, and it is the question of every politically woke citizen in Borno state that the brewing battle between the two warlords in the state would may one way or the other determine the future of the political scene of the state during the election.
While many are expectant of a more dramatic scene like that of the Kano state between Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Rabiu Kwankwanso, there is a tendency that while the duo divide APC support machinery, PDP would be taking a rugged vantage in possibly taking over the state in 2019.
The main problem with the two political warlords is that they both want to make the next governor of the state and perhaps control the state chapter of the ruling All Progressive Congress- in other words, they wish to be kingmakers.
For those familiar with the story of Pablo Escobar, or have come across the ravishing movie- The Godfather, you will understand that there can only be one kingmaker in serious social situations like this.
While the unnerving puzzle would be left to the wonderful judgement of politically oriented electorates to debate within their political minds who the actual kingmaker is or should be, NIGERIA NEWS would like to note that wise politics is not a game of media propaganda but one of political sagacity and intuition.
