1. Obasanjo reacts to Adeleke’s victory over Oyetola, speaks on Atiku’s case against Buhari
Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has reacted to the victory of the Osun State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, at the Election Petition Tribunal.
The State’s Election Tribunal on Friday sacked Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and declared Adeleke as winner of the 2018 governorship election.
Reacting, Obasanjo, in a statement he personally signed on Saturday, commended Adeleke for going to court to seek justice.
He also criticized those discouraging the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, from going to seek redress in court, saying they are of evil mind.
2. Osun tribunal verdict: I’m still in charge, can’t be intimidated – Gov. Oyetola
The Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola has said that he would not be intimidated by the verdict of the governorship election petition tribunal on Friday, in which the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ademola Adeleke was declared winner.
He said he remains the governor of the state, saying his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has resolved to challenge the judgement of the tribunal at the Appeal Court, as he expressed confidence of getting victory at the appellate court.
Oyetola made the declaration on Saturday, while playing host to an amalgam of party faithful who besieged the Osun State government house in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on a solidarity visit.
3. Kano guber: Police speak on reported killing in Gama ward
Anthony Ogbizi Michael, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, has debunked social media reports of killings in Gama ward in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, during the supplementary election on Saturday.
DIG Michael blamed social media for spreading the fake news. According to him, the story was the fabrication of the social media.
“There was no such incident or arrest of some people in any part of the state because the security arrangement was in order,” NAN reports him as saying at a press briefing.
“We have not witnessed any incident because voting went on in almost all the polling units smoothly.
4. Gov. Shettima orders probe of alleged child prostitution, sodomy, abortion in Borno prison
The Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima will on Monday inaugurate an investigative panel over a report alleging incidents of child prostitution, sodomy and forced abortion at the Maiduguri maximum security prison.
The panel is to be chaired by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan, while the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, is to serve as Secretary.
5. Nigerian Army speaks on officer arrested for cultism
The Headquarters 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has reacted to the arrest of its personnel by the Edo State Police Command for cultism.
Captain Mohammed Maidawa, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, in a statement on Saturday, said the Army does not allow any of its personnel to belong to any confraternity and that whoever crosses the red line will face the full rigours of military discipline.
He said: “The alleged case of Private Igbavbou Lucky who was arrested is an isolated case.
6. Ganduje vs Abba Yusuf: Kwankwaso demands cancellation of supplementary election
Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, has accused Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Anthony Michael Obizi, of providing back-up for armed thugs to perpetrate violence and massive rigging during the supplementary election in Kano State.
Kwankwaso, who spoke to newsmen at his residence, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh rerun elections in the state.
7. APC wins Lagos supplementary election
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has won the rerun election for Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
APC candidate, Mojeed Fatai, was declared the winner of the poll by the Returning Officer, Professor Rasheed Ojikutu.
Ojikutu said the APC candidate polled a total of 9,484 votes to defeat his closest challenger, and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tari Oliver, who scored 1,901 votes.
8. Kano rerun: CUPP raises alarms, explains why election should be cancelled
The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has called for an immediate cancellation of the supplementary governorship election which held in Kano State Saturday.
Imo Ugochinyere, CUPP’s spokesperson, in a statement, said the call followed massive bloodshed, violent activities of armed thugs and sporadic shooting of voters, that have so far characterised the exercise.
The statement reads: “We are calling for an immediate halt of the exercise because what is ongoing in Kano State cannot be described as an election but a bloody vampire ceremony.
9. Anambra police arrest woman, friend who exposed husband’s girlfriend’s nude video
The police in Anambra State has arrested a woman, Azotani Toochukwu and her friend, Ogochukwu Nwankwo, who made a video of a woman allegedly caught with her (Toochukwu) husband in their house.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, who stated this in a press statement, said the women made nude videos of the victim and tried to blackmail her to stop the release of the video.
